Good morning teachers and friends,and today I will be giving a speech on my organization.I am Matthew,chairman of Lots Of Love For People,an organization based on helping people in need of aid.Our mission is to help the people around us and sometimes worldwide who require our help and support.Helping others who are not as fortunate as us is a responsibility of us.
Several people are in that situation,in the world and even in Singapore.Statistics show that more than 2.4m jobless in the world,including 718,000 Singaporeans,with 744,000 homeless people in U.S,let alone other countries.There are also many people suffering from illnesses,such as the latest H1N1 flu,which has already infected more than 1 million,and the number is still increasing.
Put yourself into one of those people's shoes.Perhaps a man who has no money to raise his family,or perhaps a homeless old man who is too old to work and too poor to have a house.
Take Bob for instance.He is a young boy,aged around 16 to 17,and instead of completing his O-levels,he is roaming the streets picking cans for a living.His father and mother died when he was only 7 years old,and he is only left with his brother,now 15,to fend for their own lives.
These people have suffered greatly,and there is no need for them to suffer any further.If we work together,I believe we can turn their lives around.
I believe we can help those in need around us,and there are many ways to do so.My organization has already helped several homeless people settle in and sponsored the building of more HDB flats with very low rent for those who are to live in them,along with raising funds to help fund old folk homes.We have set up temporary shelters in Malaysia and Indonesia to help house a few ten thousands,and we have also organised a campaign in 2008 to raise awareness on the increasing number of homeless people and ask for donations,and have managed to change approximately 180,000 lives.
My organization is organizing a funfair on the 27th and 28th of August to raise funds.Donation of old items and food that has not been expired would be appreciated.Our goal is to hit 250,000,50,000 to provide basic job skills training,25,000 for free illness testing,75,000 for temporary shelters for the homeless,and the remaining 100,000 to sponsor the manufacturing of the H1N1 vaccine and prepare for our job fair in September.These can go a long way to helping the needy around us,and hopefully many outside our country.My organization intends and will set up some banners around in Singapore to help increase donations and raise awareness on our growing organization and the needs of the poor,along with running another campaign in Malaysia to raise awareness and provide free illness testing.We also intend to hold a raffle per month.All donations via this raffle will go to aiding our cause in helping fund some of our activities and also the purchasing of food and necessities.Each raffle costs $5,and the prize changes every month.Prizes are worth at least $100.Raffle ticket sales will begin on the first day of each month and end on the last day of the month. Winners will be announced at Will’s First Friday Soirees, on the first Friday of every month. Winners will be notified and results will be posted on our website.
I believe,that no one of you or anybody else is not important-a small donation of 50 cents will help us in our mission of helping people,no matter how small the donation.Donating is just a phone call away,and we have a toll-free number,93557401,for donation,after which we use the money to purchase food and necessities for the needy and sometimes give the money out.We also have a hot line,67532670,that provides professional counselling from our counsellors,Mr.Chen and Mrs.Soh,for those who are in desperate need for somebody to talk to.For those who are shy,we even have a website: lotsofloveforpeople.blogspot.com.As the saying goes,'Time is more important than Money',offering your services such as helping to man some of the food booths or helping to direct people booths that offers the job they might be qualified for or aim to get in our job fair,and this will help many find a pathway to a better life,better self-motivation,and a smile on their faces everyday.
